Dog 1 Chickens 0 | Chicken Coops In Zimbabwe

Dog 1 Chickens 0

This past Monday we put the chickens in their coop for the first time. We kept the light on them on a couple of the evenings as it was getting a bit cool. They seemed to adjust pretty well and was enjoying the extra space.

The first time we opened the coop door to the chicken run they really did not know what to do. They were very hesitant, but after a long time of thinking about it a few of them creeped their way out the door into the run. They did not venture very far from the coop door, but they enjoyed the dirt.

Our dog was going nuts over the chickens circling and pacing back and forth. I was concerned. But she eventually calmed down and spied on them from a distance. For the next few days we opened the coop door to let them into the run (if desired) while we were at work during the day. It seemed to go ok, although they were still keeping really close to the coop.

On Thursday, Jon had to work closing so he was home during the day. He opened the coop door to let them into the run. He had checked on them several times during the day before going to work and they really wasn't going out much, but all was well. When I got home that evening it wasn't dark yet.  The first thing I did was grab a big handful of weeds and headed to check on the chickens. None of them were in the run. I raised the coop lid to toss the weeds in and as I did I saw our dog's nose peeking through the coop door!

I immediately yelled at her and run her off. I was frantically counting the chickens and there were only 5 cowering in the far corner of the coop! There were supposed to be 7! Where is 47and the Runt?!?
